The voice over

What can i say other than that the voice over is the only thing i haven't touched apon on things relating to my teaser trailer. Here is a good example below.

Yes I do understand that this is a video game, however all the people you see in the teaser are actual professional actors, so I’d say that should past. The thing I want to note about that trailer is that the voice over’s take place in different parts of the story giving us very little information about the characters and story. I think this is good for any teaser trailer , and I think I should think about how I should incorporate that into my teaser trailer. The nest teaser is a little different though.



This teaser is a little different the reason why is because this film already has a great fan base, and most of the lines used in the teaser are from the actual graphic novel. This teaser was mostly to reach out to the fans of the graphic novel. But this trailer is useful to gain new fans also. Ill talk more on this topic the as soon as I decide what I should do for my own voice over for my teaser.

The trial and error shot

Hmmm so what do you think my friend is doing in this shot?

Well it's not very clear in the first shot, but you now get the idea that he was smoking.See this is what i call the trial and error shot of my teaser. it took a while to figure out what i could do to make the smoke more Visible.

Here is the shot about a few seconds later but it is just as bad as the last shot. see the problem isn't really to do with the lighting but the background. This is a new thing i learned about making a black and white production. now om conscious
of the fact that things you want to stand out in a black and white film - you must have that thing parallel to what is around that object.As you can see in the next shot below.

The smoke is more visable here. Well its not all that visable here but when the film is in action you can defiantly see it, and as a bonus i got this awesome light glare effect because this was filmed in night. Not only that but my friends face is consealed in the darkeness which makes him anonymous,like the other actors in the teaser. Now i keep in mind what blackground i'm at.

The Eye of the Beholder

You may have noticed quite a while back that I did a mood board. In that mood board I had this image at top. This image of course came’s form the Eye of the Beholder an episode form a popular 1960’s show The Twilight Zone. I wanted to talk about this episode in particular , since it was one of my main inspirations to do my teaser in black and white. The story of the episode mainly revolves around Janet Tyler who’s face is bandaged through most of the episode because it is seen as shockingly different from everyone else. Most of the episode everyone is in silhouette which makes you wonder what everyone looks like especially Janet. This builds a lot of tension to the big revile of her face which I won’t ruin. But lets just say that the episode had a different approach to story telling - which I don’t see today in any television shows, yet alone movies, and because this episode was so different from what I’m used to seeing, it let me to make my project different as well.

New shots = New Storyboard

This is a still taken from my teaser trailer. This shot was taken at an alleyway in china town.

Due to me taking more shots according to plan I’ve decided that it would be best to redo the storyboard, since not ever shot mentioned on the old one wasn’t taken. While shooting I found that I took even more interesting shots without really thinking about it. This could change up the story a little bit but I’ll worry about that once I’m done.

After last weekend of shooting I was very careful to only shoot scene with good lighting, since the camera I use isn’t top of the line and also I have to downgrade the video quality from HD to SD for editing purposes. This is also made even more important due to the film being in black and white. If it wasn’t for the screen test I did before shooting the actual teaser of the film , I think I would have to discard many of my shots. So I think I think will do one more screen test for editing.

Going beyond the shooting plan

While shooting for the teaser trailer i found myself doing much more than planned.I did all of the scenes planned, however i went beyond that and ended up with about 50 shots and maybe more than 10 minutes of footage, and this is a 1 minute trailer. i even found that i shot in more locations than planned while traveling around london and so on. this is a very good thing but it will be a pain to decide what shots i should use since i like many of them i have taken.

Watched 127 hours

On the 15th of january i happened to watch 127 hours later. i wasnt expecting the film to be any use to my project, however i was wrong and after i finished watching it, i felt the need to incorporate some themes in my teaser trailer. The thing i remember what was great about the film was how realistically the film portray how you would think if you was stuck between a rock and was dieing and what you would do if you wanted to survive. I also noticed many interesting camera angles in the film, like close ups from within objects. I feel like i've gotten many idea's form this film for my teaser whice i could quickly add in editing.

film noire inspirations

while searching through the the net for inspirations for my teaser trailer, i tought it would be a good idea to have a look a much earier films that im used to. The noire film genre is something that i have taken big intrest into - from the camera angles,lighting effect and setting. i believe that the genre is a good example to take from while filming. Here is a example of film noire.

The beginning of the filming process

First shot for the teaser trailer

Filming has begun, and during this time i wish to do several screen test between shooting to get the best quality out of the final teaser trailer.

Screen test 1 -POOR LIGHTING!!

i started filming this screen test just before i start the actaul filming of my teaser trailer. Since my teaser trailer is going to be in black and white the whole nature of filming it is going to be different. what ive learned from this video is that the lighting is very key or the picture will be very grainy, and unpleasent to watch.

Creatation of poster version1

The creation of this poster is really simple, but gives a really nice effect




first i adjust the brightness and contrast to get a good differences from light to dark.



Then i change the hue of the colour to make it look more effective.

then lastly i will create all the logos and text in the film, which i will get into later.
